Choosing The Best WordPress Hosting
Finding the right WordPress hosting will always be a balance of affordability verses speed and the hosting provider’s reputation for reliability and security.
It can be very difficult to compare hosting offers. Some are just cheap, some provide better support and some are much better for speed.
Let’s talk about speed for a moment. Dig around looking for reviews and you’ll come across different bloggers stating why they moved from Bluehost to SiteGround, or why they moved from SiteGround to Bluehost.
Now both SiteGround and Bluehost offer excellent hosting for bloggers. Bluehost is a little faster and gives you a free domain name. You also get unmetered bandwidth which isn’t the same as unlimited but it’s more than enough for most small blogs or business websites.
SiteGround is known for it’s excellent support. SiteGround’s StartUp package is limited to 10,000 visits monthly which is why I recommend starting off with their GrowBig package if you’re serious about growing your blog.
If your blog really starts to take off you will outgrow your hosting package. Think of your hosting as a small shop on the High Street. As you get more customers, you need a bigger shop. You can’t cram them all into one small store and expect to provide the same level of service.
It’s just like this with your hosting. Too many visitors to your shared hosting with Bluehost or SiteGround and the server is overloaded. There’s a bit more leeway with Bluehost than SiteGround which is why they’re my top recommendation.
Your hosting provider has to think about other accounts using the same shared hosting. Some successful blogs have in excess of 200,000 visitors a month. Some more than 1 million! Grow to that sort of size and you’ll be asked to upgrade your package. Maybe move to a dedicated server.
Do you think this is unreasonable?
Think about the store on the High Street. As you grow the cost of your premises will increase but with more customers you’re making more money. It’s just like this with your blog or tiny business website. More visitors means more money but you do have to pay more for hosting.
All the recommended hosting companies, Bluehost, Hostgator, SiteGround and WP Engine have options as your site grows. However, just remember that as your blog or website becomes hugely successful you will start paying more for your hosting.
